I never knew Fred well during our school years. I remember admiring him for maintaining a level attitude as Jane and I carried on our friendship. Fred and I chatted often (weekly) during his final 6 months....recalling funny events in our lives. He mentioned the story of my large frame and the special antique chair I nearly ruined....had become part of their family lore.
We talked often about Jane, their kids and her final days....was damned difficult for me. Jane apparently mentioned me occasionally and the adventures we shared . Always a lady...always !!!
Fred never mentioned his illness but always maintained a cheerful chat. Wish I had known. We discussed all these stories and he accepted them in good spirit and laughter. Most he had already heard.
Anyway....so long Fred. Wish we had more time to plan that visit to Las Vegas. Promise I could have shown you a Vegas experience never seen by most mortals. We''ll do it in the next life.
